Doris Coffing

December 17, 1927 — June 14, 2025

Doris Littlejohn Coffing, 97, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg, Virginia. 

She is survived by her daughter Catherine Ferguson and husband David of Lynchburg, VA; daughter Tracy Coffing and husband Ronald Rogos of The Plains, VA.; granddaughter Erin Ferguson of Richmond, VA; grandson Ryan Ferguson, wife Dabney, and their children Calder and Ellis of Earlysville, VA. 

Doris was predeceased by Ralph L. Coffing, her husband of 70 years, and their son Cary A. Coffing. 

Doris was born to Orval L. and Anna L. (Hilger) Littlejohn on December 17, 1927, in Palisade, Colorado. She was predeceased by her siblings Robert O., Donald A., and Elberta R. (Pepple). Doris graduated from San Juan High School, Fair Oaks, CA in 1945. She was her class Salutatorian and recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award. 

Doris and Ralph left California and moved to New York in 1963. They later resided in Pittsburgh, PA, and Huddleston (Smith Mountain Lake) and Lynchburg, VA. 

Doris devoted her life to her husband and their family, always providing a home filled with love and support. She demonstrated her extraordinary artistic talents through drawing, needlework, sewing, and painting – including commissioned portraits. Doris was a voracious reader and enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles. An enthusiastically competitive cardplayer, she seldom lost a game. 

She was a supporter and volunteer for many community and church-based programs and activities. Doris and Ralph were members of Patmos United Methodist Church, in Huddleston, VA and Peakland United Methodist Church, in Lynchburg, VA. 

Her family would like to thank the health care staff at Westminster Canterbury and Westminster at Home Hospice for their compassionate care. 

As per her wishes, a private family interment service will be held at a later date.
