Doris Jennings Waller, 83, originally of Lynchburg, died Monday afternoon, October 22, surrounded by family in her room at Arbor Terrace in Knoxville, TN. Mrs. Waller was born May 25, 1935, and raised in Amherst County before residing in Lynchburg with her husband, John William Waller, to whom she was married for 46 years before his death in 2000. Shortly thereafter, she relocated near her daughter in Knoxville, TN. She was a member of First Baptist Church Concord, TN. Perhaps her greatest joy, Doris loved spending time with family, no matter the occasion. She was an engaging soul and friend to all she encountered. During her recent short stay at Arbor Terrace, she made quick friends, immensely enjoyed the caring and loving staff and residents and the many activities that kept her young-at-heart.
Mrs. Waller is survived by her son, John (Jay) Waller, Jr. and his wife, Bonnie of Lynchburg; daughter, Marcia Touchstone and her husband, Charles Touchstone, of Knoxville, TN, three grandchildren, Chase and Brett Touchstone of Knoxville, TN; and Emily Waller Harmon, and her husband Jonathan Harmon, of Portsmouth. She is also survived by two sisters, Geraldine Massie and her husband James of Goode, VA, and Becky Simmons and her husband Larry, of Lynchburg; two sisters-in-law, Deborah and Vickie Jennings, and one brother-in-law, William Quinn, all of Madison Heights, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Waller is preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Gayle Waller, father T. Coleman Jennings, mother Elizabeth Jennings, brothers T. C. Jennings and David Jennings, sister Carolyn Quinn, and brother-in-law Richard Wooldridge.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday October 26, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 27 in Fort Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Troy Simmons officiating.
