Doris Baker Gallagher, 81, of Lynchburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, surrounded by her three sons and loving husband.
She was born on June 28, 1942, in Roanoke, VA and raised in Bristol, Va. She was a graduate of the Bristol, Va. Public Schools, Bristol Virginia High School, Virginia Intermont College, and the University of Tennessee.
Doris taught school in Newton, NC. and then became a full-time homemaker, wife, mother, and wonderful Christian citizen.
Doris was a member of First Presbyterian Church, past member of Oakwood Country Club, Scout Leader, and outstanding bridge player. Her greatest joy in life was spending time at Smith Mountain Lake with family. She loved all sports, especially UVA basketball and Virginia Tech football.
Doris was predeceased by her loving daughter, Karen Amelia Bowers.
Doris is survived by her loving and devoted husband of nearly 60 years, Fred Gallagher; sons, Kirk, Rodney, Tate and daughter-in-law, Trish Gallagher; grandchildren, Mary Hannah Bowers, Annastin Bowers, Baker Gallagher, Madison Gallagher, Mason Gallagher, Matthew Gallagher, and Alli Gallagher. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. In addition she is survived by her siblings, Mary Jane Long, Fred Baker (Peggy), Nancy Long (Phil), and Carter Baker (Beverly).
A memorial service to celebrate Doris’ life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 19, 2024, at Tharp Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Roberts and Gwen Jarrett officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Doris’ church during her youth and where she was married, State Street Methodist Church, 650 Valley Dive, Bristol, VA, 24201.
