Doris Holte

Doris Ann Meisel Holte, age 87, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on October 6, 2023.  She was the daughter of the late Rexford Paul Meisel and Eleanor Gleason Meisel, and the wife of the late Jack Olaf Holte for 53 years.

Mrs. Holte was born on January 19, 1936, in Binghamton, New York.  She attended school in Harpursville, NY. In 1972, Doris supported her husband, Jack, in fulfilling his dream of owning and operating a dairy farm, which they worked together until 1999 when they moved to Virginia. During those years, she worked a variety of different jobs to help support the family. However, being a Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother brought her the most happiness and joy.  

Doris attended the Living Water Baptist Church in Madison Heights, VA. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing bingo and word search books. She liked to watch daytime soap operas and baseball games, but her favorite hobby was watching the Game Show Network.   

Mrs. Holte is survived by her children: Debora Wendel of Ithaca, NY, Lori Rogers and her husband Bill of Madison Heights, VA, Robert Holte of Grand Rapids, MI, Lisa Livingston and her husband Kory of Evington, VA; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren: and many loving friends in the community.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doris Ann Holte is predeceased by her son, Kenneth Marvin and her brothers, Paul Meisel, Jim Meisel and Richard (Dick) Meisel.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 1 P.M. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Pastor Daryl W. Donald, Sr. officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude or JDRF.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and residents of Valley View Retirement Home. Thank you for welcoming “Lil’ Bit” into your family. She enjoyed living there and made many special friendships.
