Doris Ileene Goff Burton

Doris Ileene Goff Burton, 80, of Bedford, passed away Friday, Jul 28, 2023, at her residence. She was born in Big Island, VA on May 21, 1943. A daughter of the late Ralph Gibson Goff and Lelia Wilson Goff. In addition to her parents Doris was preceded in death by her Son-in-law, Dennis Overstreet; Daughter-in-law, Rose Burton; brothers, Roger Goff and Linwood Goff; and sister, Carolyn Overstreet.

Doris was a member of Longwood Ave. Baptist Church. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Doris loved to fish, flower gardening, scrapbooking with her friend Gail Dubovsky and her trips with family and friends. She was a very active person who enjoyed trips, family get-togethers and time spent with her friends. Doris leaves behind a host of friends that she cherished.

Doris is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, James W. Burton; four children, Tim Burton and his wife, Kim, Shelby Burton Overstreet, James L. Burton and his wife, Pam and Gregory Burton; grandchildren, Kelly Gregory (Brooks), Laura Strode (Brian), Amanda Watson (Gary), Christina Overstreet (Randy), April Stovall (Josh), Matthew Burton, Hannah Blankenship (Jesse) and Casey Burton (Anthony); Great-grandchildren, Emmalyn Chasson, Sage Strode, Bella Overstreet, Cody and Wyatt Watson, Carter, William and Samuel Gregory, IvyGrace and Raegan Stovall, Maggie Blankenship, Amber and Justin Eckert, Aurora and Brendan Strode, Daniel Settles, and Faith Ileene Carter (Due in August); Sisters, Ellen Mabry (Eldred), Nadine Kennedy (John). Also surviving are numerous other family and so many friends.

A funeral service and celebration of Doris’s life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Longwood Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Ross Gilfillen and Pastor Ray T. Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00pm on Monday, July 31, 2023 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford.
