Doris Jean Shelton Davidson

Doris Jean Shelton Davidson, 86, long-time resident of Gretna,VA, died August 27, 2014 at The Oaks of Lynchburg.

Since early 2012 she resided at The Oaks and greatly enjoyed The Oaks’ Staff, serenity and care. The Family wants to also give special thanks to the Centra Hospice Staff and Harmon Eye Center.

Born September 30, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Jack Shelton, Sr. and the late Myrtle Compton Shelton. She was predeceased by two infant sons and one brother, Jack Shelton Jr. of Danville. Mrs. Davidson was originally married to the late Emmett Waverly Davidson of Altavista. She is survived by three sons: Ted Davidson and wife Roxane of Hurt, Glen Davidson and James Davidson of Virginia Beach, two brothers: Palmer Shelton and wife Pam of Danville, Compton Shelton and wife Mary of Danville, one sister: Geraldine Adams of Danville. She is also survived by two grandsons: Adam Davidson of Hurt, Brad Davidson and wife Megan, and two great grandchildren: Blake and Madison of Altavista.

Mrs. Davidson was a long-time middle and high school teacher in Pittsylvania County. She was a proud graduate of Bob Jones University of Greenville, SC. She had a passion for teaching as well as compassion for others. She always loved beautiful music, flowers and the Arts in her lifetime.

Mrs. Davidson cherished her three boys throughout life. They were simply her greatest joy on earth. She never failed to provide for them, defend them and tell them repeatedly how much she loved them. She will be forever missed.

In keeping with the Family’s request, there will be no funeral services. Interment will be with Family and Friends Sunday, September 7, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Gretna Cemetery.
