Doris Mitchell Jordan

Doris Mitchell Jordan, 72, of Spout Spring, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2011. She was the loving wife of Raymond Carl Jordan for 54 years.

Doris was born February 24, 1939 in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late John William Mitchell and Pauline Brooks Mitchell. She was retired from Imperial Reading Corporation after 34 years and Centra Health.

She was a member of Thomas Terrace Baptist Church, Red Hat Society, and Concord Senior Citizens. Doris' greatest joy in life was her grandson, Dakota, whom she loved with all her being.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Monica Jordan Woodward and husband, Sonny of Landis, NC, her son, John Scott Jordan and wife, Beth of Spout Spring, her grandson, Dakota Scott Jordan of Spout Spring, her sister, Mary Ellen Mitchell Jones of Madison Heights; her step-grandchild, Elizabeth Woodward Morris and husband, John and her step great grandchild, Blaine Woodward all of Ft. Mill, SC; one niece and three nephews and special cousins and deceased cousin, John Cheek of Bedford.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Marie Mitchell.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 01, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Doris's life will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, December 02, 2011 at Thomas Terrace Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Grooms officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
