Doris Miller Sharp, 96, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024.
Beloved mother to Nancy (David) Szatkowski, Kathryn (William) Miles, James (Karen) Sharp, and Thomas (Barbara) Sharp. Preceded in death by cherished husband James F. Sharp, Jr., dear grandson Jeffrey Szatkowski, loving parents Herman and Meta Miller; her two brothers and their wives, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law and their spouses. In addition to her four children, she is survived by eight grandchildren: Andrew (Amanda) Szatkowski, Anna (Jose) Benitez, Will (Munye) Miles, Henry (Summer) Miles, Elizabeth (Andrew) Brown, James (Ashlyn) Sharp, Aiden Sharp and Francesca Sharp, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Doris was born on April 3, 1927, in Middleton, Wisconsin. She married James F. Sharp, Jr. on August 26, 1949, and enjoyed 63 years of marriage, in which they resided in 4 different states before making Lynchburg their home. They later lived at Smith Mountain Lake for 24 glorious years before returning to Lynchburg. Doris loved being a mother and grandmother and felt that raising a family was her greatest achievement. She also enjoyed tole painting, crafting, reading, and traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe with her husband.
The family would like to thank all the very kind caregivers at The Summit Assisted Living Center who showed great compassion during her declining years as well as Gentle Shepherd Hospice and Lorena Yoder who eased her passage in her final days.
A celebration of her life will be scheduled for a later date.
