Doris Smith Mcclain

Doris Smith McClain passed away on July 28, 2023, in Lynchburg. She was born on May 11, 1935, a daughter of the late Royal Smith and Dorothy Parker Smith. She was educated in the Lynchburg City School System, where she graduated from Dunbar High School. After graduation, she attended Hampton University where she met her husband, Robert Connor McClain. Upon leaving college, Doris and Robert moved back to Lynchburg, where Doris was employed by CVCC until her retirement.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Connor McClain; and a brother, Royal Smith Jr. Doris is survived by her two sons, Kevin McClain and Keith McClain; a brother, Clarence Smith; a sister, Elaine Merritt; and a niece, Sandra Merritt.

Doris enjoyed spending time with family at gatherings and traveling.

A graveside service will take place at Fort Hill Memorial Park on Monday, August 7, 2023 at 12 p.m. Flowers may be sent to Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Lynchburg, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
