Dorothy A. Taylor Obenchain

Dorothy Ann Taylor Obenchain, 90, of Bedford passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. She was born in Bradentown, FL on August 6, 1926. She is the daughter of the late Charles Walter Taylor and Pluma Ann Thomas Taylor. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Marshall Norvell Obenchain, Jr.; a great-granddaughter, Jaena Obenchain and two siblings McCoy Taylor and Thelma R. McDaniel.

Dorothy retired after 20 years of service with the Department of Navy as a Consolidated Industrial Relations and Defense on the island of Guam. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Moneta. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, reading her Bible and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, John Marshall Obenchain, II and his wife, Patsy and James Michael Obenchain; four grandchildren, John Marshall Obenchain, III and his wife, Gaema, Jerhett Obenchain and his wife, Christy, Apryl Obenchain, Nicholas Obenchain; ten great-grandchildren, Janessa Obenchain, Justine Obenchain, John Marshall Obenchain IV, Jerhett J. “J.J.” Obenchain, Christian Obenchain, Keilani Obenchain, Jena Leiah Obenchain, Cerenna Obenchain, Coalbee Obenchain and Anthony Obenchain.

 A funeral service and celebration of Dorothy’s life will be conducted at 10:00 am on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Chapel in Bedford with Pastor David Lord officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke, VA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home Bedford.
