Dorothy Corrine Pohnl, 92, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016. She was the wife of the late Francis Matthew Pohnl.
Born Monday, September 01, 1924 in Cleveland, OH, Dorothy was a daughter of the late Charles Earl Kennedy and the late Clara Mae Kennedy Daugherty.
In addition to her husband, and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by two daughters,
Gloria Balasquide and Beverly Atkinson, and a son, William J. Pohnl.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda Pohnl and José Martinez, of Lynchburg, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, two great-great-great grandchildren, and a sister, Shirley Kennedy Zapetis, of Miami, FL.
Dorothy loved her family, the Lord and her church, Thomas Road Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and was known for her chocolate fudge. Holidays and the changing of the seasons were her favorite times of the year. A huge NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan. She was member of the NASCAR Yahoo Fantasy League. NASCAR Granny as she was known was the League Champion, as a 90 year old. She was well loved and will be missed by many.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will follow at 12:00 PM on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Cemetery.
