Dorothy Dietz Wood
Dorothy Dietz Wood, 82, of Lynchburg, died Monday, October 24, 2011. She was the wife of the late Monterey Jolson Wood, Sr.
Born on February 15, 1929, in Asheville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Walter Dietz and Bessie Sprinkle Dietz. She was retired from Sears after many years of service.
Dot will be remembered as a kind and caring person of strong faith who never demanded the spotlight, but was content in the support of others. She loved people and always wore a smile on her face.
Dot is survived by her daughters: Donna Kay Wood, and Teresa \"Tee\" Wood Byers both of Lynchburg, and Pamela Wood Stephenson, and her husband, Elmo, of Riner; and her son, Monterey Jolson Wood, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Evington; her grandchildren: Crystal Leigh Price of Evington, and Joel Wood, of Lynchburg; and great-grandchildren: Brittany and Raven of Evington.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 29, 2011, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
Because of Dot\"™s love for animals, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Lynchburg Humane Society, 3305 Naval Reserve Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
