Dorothy “Dottie” Viar Altice

Dorothy (Dottie) Viar Altice, 74, of Forest, VA, died Saturday, September 21, 2013. She was the wife of Donnie Lee Altice, for 36 years.

Born Friday, November 04, 1938 in Lynchburg, Dottie was a daughter of the late Roland Viar and the late Mary Lipscomb Viar Deacon.

In addition to her husband, Dottie is survived by two daughters: Cheryl Mann and her husband, Ricky, of Lynch Station, and Deborah Wooldridge, of Madison Heights; two grandchildren: Dustin Mann and his wife, Lindsay, of Bedford, and Krystalin Mays and her husband, Corey, of Concord; two great grandchildren: Shane Mann, and Colt Mays, a special niece, Joyce Ramey and her husband, Joe, and a lifetime friend, Pat Viar.

In addition to her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by three brothers: Roland, Clarence, and Lawrence; two sisters: Hilda Steadman, and Lilly Viar; and a son in-law, Jerry Wooldridge.

Dottie loved her church Heritage Baptist. She loved to cook for others. She was known for her homemade biscuits. Being full of life, she enjoyed giving her time and talents to others. Dottie worked for GE/Ericsson for 30 years.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Virginia Memorial Park with Jim Tucker officiating.
