Dorothy Foster Ashworth

Dorothy (Dot) Foster Ashworth, 87, of Lynchburg, VA, died Friday, June 29, 2012. Married twice, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Lee Foster and her second husband, Carl Wesley Ashworth.

Born Monday, February 23, 1925 in Lynchburg, Dorothy was a daughter of the late Henry Hawkins Mayberry and Isabell Hamilton Mayberry.

Dorothy is survived by her two sons: Robert L. Foster and his wife, Mayor Joan Foster, of Lynchburg, and Dr. James E. Foster and his wife, Elizabeth, of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren: Janna Joyner and her husband, Andrew, of Lynchburg, Dr. Hilary Basham and her husband, Jonathan, Enumclaw, WA, Robert E. Foster and his wife, Samantha, of Lynchburg, Katie McAllister and her husband, Darrin, of Clearwater, FL, James (Jed) Foster and his wife, Patricia(Trish), of St. Louis, MO, Anne (Abby) Lohr and her husband, Eric, of Charlotte, NC, Scott Chapman and his wife, Tara, Mt. Pleasant, NC, Jennifer Hughes and her husband, Garland, of Charlotte, NC, and Edward (Teddy) Chapman, and his wife, Priscilla, of Charlotte, NC; 21 great grandchildren, a sister, Elizabeth Creger, of Lynchburg, and a close and good friend Edith Barley, who was like a sister.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, Dorothy was preceded in death by two sisters, Molly and Virginia.

Dorothy was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Family was everything to her. She never forgot a birthday or an anniversary. She loved playing croquet, bingo or cards with the family. In her leisure time she enjoyed watching her favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. She will be missed by those she loved so dearly and loved her in return.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, July 02, 2012 in Fort Hill Memorial Park, with Rev. William J. Watson, III officiating. The family will receive friends at Robert and Joan\"™s home. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
