Dorothy Hilder Overstreet

Dorothy Hilder Overstreet., 88, of Lynchburg, died Friday, January 1, 2010.  She was the wife of the late Norman Andrew (Jack) Overstreet.

Mrs. Overstreet was born June 26, 1921 in Wymore, NE, daughter of the late Charles Henry Hilder and Alice Brandt Hilder.

Mrs. Overstreet was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Forest and served as president of the UMW, a lifetime member of Goode Earth Garden Club.  She was an accomplished and published poet.  She was a champion miniature golfer, playing with her two eldest grandsons, defeating them every time.

She is survived by her children: Dr. N. Andrew  Overstreet, III and his wife, Dr. Carol Pope of Raleigh, NC, Charles Overstreet and wife Kathryn of Lynchburg; two daughters: Susan Overstreet Carter and Laura Overstreet Frey and husband, Buz, all of Lynchburg, also Fred Carter and Gretchen Overstreet; nine grandchildren: Scott Overstreet, Jason Overstreet and wife, Paige, Philip Carter and wife, Jennifer, Brent Carter, Mallory Overstreet, Paul Overstreet, Karl Overstreet, Andrew Frey and Rachel Frey;  three great-grandchildren:  Jack Overstreet, Alexa Overstreet and Olivia Overstreet.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant child, Richard Paul Overstreet, a brother, Ralph Hilder and two sisters: Velma Hart and Frances Koski.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm today, January 3, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.  A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Monday, January 4, 2010 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with Rev. C. Douglas Pillow and Chaplain Julie Flores officiating.  Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
