Dorothy Jones Lyons Miller

Dorothy Jones Lyons Miller of Lynchburg took a journey to meet her blessed Savior on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
Born in Nelson County, VA, on July 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Powell Jones and Elnora Gowen Jones. She was an active member of Heritage Baptist Church since September 5, 1979 and was a woman of prayer. She was saved in 1971 and loved serving her Lord.
She was preceded in death by both husbands: George Lewis Lyons and Lloyd P. Miller; two brothers: Gordan and Ryland Jones; and two sisters: Carrie Lyons and Josephine Wood.
Survivors include two sons: Melvin Lyons and wife, Darlene of Evington, VA and Rev. Ray Lyons, Sr. and wife, Pat of Bedford, VA; three sisters: Lois Dipoala of Mechanicsville, VA; Jessie M. Jones of Amherst, VA, and Virginia Bailey and husband, Kermit of Gladstone, VA; one granddaughter: Karen Severs and husband, Joel of Bedford, VA; three grandsons: R.T. Lyons, Jr. and wife, Denise of Bedford, VA; Matthew Lyons and wife, Elizabeth of Flowery Branch, GA, and Gabe Lyons and wife, Rebekah of Franklin, TN; and eight great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to Bedford County Nursing Home Staff for the excellent care they have provided for Dot for the past seven years.
A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2021 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Dr. Jerry Kroll officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Heritage Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA, or to Calvary Baptist Church in Bedford, VA.
