Dorothy Lorraine Stone Joyner, 98, of Cave Spring Place, died January 7, 2021. She was born July 5, 1922 in Norfolk, VA, the daughter of the late George Washington Stone and Helen Marie Clemmer Stone. She was preceded in death by her husband, James N. Joyner, Sr., brothers, Harry Clemmer Stone, and George Washington Stone, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Barbara H. Joyner.
Mrs. Joyner attended Norfolk Public Schools and was an active member of Third Presbyterian Church in Norfolk for 84 years where she served as an Elder. She enjoyed volunteer work as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Past Guardian Bethel #46 Jobs Daughters, Past President Social Order Beauceant #235, and Past Matron Elizabeth Chapter #45 O.E.S., and was employed for 22 years by the Masonic Widows Son Trust.
She is survived by four children, Col. James N Joyner Jr, Alice M Langford, (Robert), Richard E Joyner (Joanne), George E Joyner (Sara); and seven grandchildren: Virginia West (Ken), James N Joyner III (Laura), Lorraine Looney (Brad), Sean Langford (Erika), Richard L Joyner (Emily), James C Joyner (Arla), Robin Fisher (Kyle) and nine great-grandchildren; nieces Holly Longtin (Mike), Mia Adams (Dan), and nephews David Stone and Michael Stone. She also leaves behind two very dear friends, Arthur Putman and Matt Trahan.
Lorraine was a loving Mom, who cared deeply for her own family as well as her church family.
Due to Covid Restrictions, the family will have a celebration of her life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Park View Community Mission, Lynchburg VA, or a charity of one’s choice.
