On May 28, 2017, Dorothy Mae Barbour Stanley, affectionately known as “Sister Barbour” departed this life at Lynchburg General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be remembered for her laugh, her smile, and her quick wit.
Dorothy was born August 9, 1935, in Lynchburg, Va. to the late Theodore R. and Gertrude Elliott Barbour. She was predeceased by her husband, William Stanley, brother Theodore Barbour, Jr., sister Virginia Barbour, brother-in-law William Hicks, nephew Melvin Barbour, Jr. and devoted niece Beatrice Barbour. Left to cherish her memory are her son Vincent Barbour, Sr. (Consuella) of Evington, Va., daughter Virginia Williams and a lovingly devoted son-in-law, Bobby Williams, Sr. of Lynchburg, Va.
Survivors also include her brother Overton Barbour (Vivian) of Texas, devoted brothers Melvin Barbour, Sr. (Evelyn), Aubrey Barbour, Sr. (Helen), Robert Barbour, Sr. (Janice), a very devoted sister-in-law Elizabeth Barbour, all of Lynchburg, and sisters Hattie Hicks of Forest, Va. and Josephine Johnson of Reston, Va.
She is further survived by her grandchildren Consuella Barbour, Dorothy Thomas, Vincent Barbour, Jr., and step-grandchildren Bobby Jr, Joanne and Vincent Williams, as well as great grandchildren Malcolm, Meghan, Nickolas, Gabriella, Leah, Ashley and Viankah.
She is also survived by devoted nephews Freddy Barbour, Sr., Donnie Brown, Albert Jennings, Sr. and Robert Barbour, Jr., a devoted niece Tiffani Barbour, as well as many other family and friends she made through the years during her tenure at Colonial Hills Golf Club.
In honoring Sister Barbour’s request, there will be a private celebration of her life.
