Dorothy Mae Coleman, 84, of Lynchburg, died Monday, December 04, 2017. She was the wife of Harold Lloyd Coleman, Sr. for 54 years
Born Wednesday, July 19, 1933 in Raleigh, NC, Dot was a daughter of the late James Ray and the late Maggie Gooch Ray.
In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her sister Alice Faison and her husband, Junior.
In addition to her husband, Dot is survived by her children, Carl Smith and his wife Eva, Harold Lloyd Coleman Jr., Ricky Coleman, and his wife, Dorothy; grandchildren, Will Smith and his wife, Sarah, Alicia Lundstrom and her husband, Tim, Josh Smith, Shaye Kuhn and her husband, Brooks, Dakota Smith and his wife, Bryanna, Cora Coleman, Haley Coleman, James Coleman, Christy Coleman, Zachary Coleman; sisters, Pauline Baucom, and Francis Manshack and her husband, Bill; a brother, James Ray Jr., and many nieces and nephews.
Dot was the matriarch of the Coleman family. All holidays were spent at her home with all of her family. She never met a stranger, and was a hard worker. Dot retired from the state after 20 years of service with Central Va. training center, then started private duty sitting with the elderly for 20+ years. Dot cared for everyone she met. She loved craft making, whether it was to sell at craft shows or for gifts for family or friends. She was also an active reader and an excellent southern cook. Active in her church, she was ready for the Lord to take her home.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Dot’s life will follow at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor James Smith officiating.
