Dorothy Mae Thomas, age 83, of Lynchburg, Virginia, peacefully passed from her earthly home into eternity on December 4, 2019, surrounded by her loving family, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia.
She was born in Campbell County, Virginia, on April 1, 1936, to the late Willie G. Smith and Gracie Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted children, Shirley Gatling (Darryl) of Brandywine, MD, Nancy Tucker, of Upper Marlboro, MD, Anthony “Tony” Thomas (Cynthia), of Rustburg, VA and Timothy “Tim” Thomas, of Lynchburg, VA; four grandchildren, Shannon Gatling of Rustburg, VA, Vanity Gatling of Brandywine, MD, Jegan Tucker of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Anthony “AJ” Thomas, Jr. of Evington, VA; three great-grandchildren, Khalil Gatling of Hyattsville, MD, Shaelyn Gatling of Lynchburg, VA, and Nile Hutcherson of Brandywine, MD; one brother, Wilmer Smith (Ceil) of Bowie, MD; three sisters-in-law, Lillie Smith of Forest, VA, Rebecca Smith of Salem, VA, and Dorothy Smith of Forest, VA; a devoted and loving caregiver, Evelyn West; two devoted friends, Margie Vega and Courtney Meggison and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2019, at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, Virginia with the Reverend Nancy Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Burial Park, 2310 Lakeside Drive, Lynchburg, Virginia 24501. The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. before the service.
