Dorothy Manley Garrett

After a lifetime of devotion to the Lord and her family, Dorothy Mae Manley Garrett, 84, of Big Island, entered His Kingdom on Saturday, June 29, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Garrett; her son, Michael Garrett; brother, Paul Manley; and her great-grandsons, Joshua and Patrick Anderson.

Dorothy spent over fifty years teaching Sunday school at Hunting Creek Baptist Church, touching the lives of every child that passed through her class. With over 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and all their respected families, Dorothy never forgot a birthday, anniversary or any special occasion. Her selflessness and dedication to her faith and family will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Her legacy will live on through her children: Louise Garrett Pohl of Lawrence, KS; Patricia Goff and husband Floyd Goff of Big Island, VA; and David Garrett and wife, Carol Garrett of Lynchburg, VA; her grandchildren: Angela Davis and husband Stuart Davis of Big Island, VA; Roberta Shepherd of Lawrence, KS; Alena Scott and husband Gregg Scott of Ozwakie, KS; James Craig of Forest, VA; Jennifer Anderson and husband Philip Anderson of Wentworth, NC; Karen Miles and husband William Miles of Evington, VA; Janice Stevens and husband Marty Stevens of Bedford, VA; Michael Goff and wife, Tracey Goff of Nampa, ID; Brian Garrett of Crewe, VA; and Adam Garrett and friend Ashley of Forest, VA; and her great-grandchildren: Alyssia Anderson and friend Peyton Smith, Courtney Knight, Anthony Stevens and friend Heather Williams, Jason Stephens, Leslie Davis and friend Daniel Wibbens, Alexis Stevens, Colton Anderson, Kelli Brubaker, Ethan Davis, Skylar Scott, Paige Goff, Jocelyn Goff, Tagen Scott, and Liam Goff.

Although not family, Dorothy Byers was a special lifelong friend and like a sister to Dorothy. Her faithful Sunday school teacher, Erma Worley, was always a friend.

The family would like to thank the entire Raymond Gable family who has treated Dorothy so well over the years.
