Dorothy Jane Pesco (nee Redderoth), age 94, went home to the Lord on Thursday, February 15, 2018. Dottie was born in Newark, NJ, on September 29, 1923 to Rudolph and Thusa Mae Redderoth. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 62 years, John J. Pesco; her son, Steven J. Pesco; her son-in-law, Ken Laguens; and her three siblings.
Dottie graduated from Montclair High School in NJ and served in WWII as a storekeeper in the US Navy. She used her GI bill to attain her AA at Ithica Community College in NY where she met the love of her life, John Pesco. After marrying in 1949, John and Dottie lived in Chicago; Syracuse; Parsippany, NJ; Stratford, CT; Hendersonville, NC; and Moneta, VA. They ended their retirement years in the Elks National Home in Bedford, VA. Dottie spent the last 14 months in the Bedford County Nursing Home.
Left to cherish her memory are three of her children: Carol Laguens, Pensacola, FL; James (Juanita) Pesco, Dearborn Heights, MI; and Judith (Roger) Coins, Huddleston, VA. She was blessed with three grandchildren: Beth (Tom) Carter, Kathy (Trey) Haddock, and Richard Piet; and three great-grandchildren: Sydney and Austin Carter, and Kendyl Haddock. Dottie also leaves a sister-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dottie was a devoted mother and homemaker. After retirement, Dottie and John traveled the world and they played golf as often as possible. She made beautiful handwork with embroidery and quilting, and loved to play bridge. Dottie will be interred next to John in the Elks Home Cemetery, Bedford, VA.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at English Meadows- Elks Home Cemetery at 11:00 am conducted by Pastor Ken Lester. The family request memorial contributions be made in Dottie’s honor to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 5510 Six Forks Road # 107, Raleigh, N.C. 27609.
