Dorothy W. Smith

Dorothy W. Smith, 85 of Lynchburg, VA passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 at her residence.   Dorothy was born September 7, 1928 in Hill, NH to the late Harry E. Woodman and Claris D. Crosby.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Smith, Sr., a daughter, Shirley M. Keyses and two brothers, Donald H. Woodman and Elmer Woodman, all of Franklin, NH. She was retired from the New Hampshire State Hospital in Concord, NH. A frequent traveler, Dorothy was constantly on the road and was privileged to visit all forty-eight contiguous states.

An avid genealogist, Dorothy truly loved her family. She is survived by four daughters: Dorothy Maggart and Nancy Judkins of Lynchburg, Sharon (Rick) Boyden and Linda (Gene) Danforth of New Hampshire, three sons: Richard (Sue) Smith of North Carolina, Robert (Barbie) Smith of Rustburg and Norman (Tab) Smith of Lynchburg, two step-sons: John F. (Sallie) Smith, Jr. of Louisiana and Lester (Sylvia) Smith of Florida and one brother, Harold Woodman of Michigan. She was the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, 7:00 \"" 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted in the chapel at Tharp Funeral Home on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 2:00 pm, Reverend Richard Boyden officiating, with interment in Franklin, NH.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Alice Powell and her team at Centra Health Hospice. Her final needs were lovingly cared for by her family at home.
