Douglas Raymond “Doug” Joiner, 58 of Forest died Monday February 23, 2015. He was the “king” and loving partner to Donna Stratton for over ten years.
Doug was born February 13, 1957, in Pittsburgh, Penn. and was a son of Carolyn Houglin Joiner and the late Reverend Donald J. Joiner. Recently retired, Doug was employed by Bristol-Myers Squibb and later AstraZeneca as a Senior Territory Business Manager. Doug was a graduate of Penn State University with a BS in microbiology. Doug enjoyed spending time at various beaches and islands, playing golf and had a passion for playing tennis with his dear friends at Oakwood Country Club.
In addition to his beloved Donna and cherished mother, he is survived by his daughter Ashley Joiner of Va. Beach whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Donalyn Selinsky and husband E.Charles of McMurray, Penn., Betty Cavett and her husband, Rob of Gilbertsville, Penn., and Leah Downs and her husband, Col. Michael Downs of Fort Mead, Md.; his nephews, Wayne Brunkhurst, Peter Don Selinsky, Jacob Downs, William Downs, and Zachary Downs; and his niece, Alene Brunkhurst, all of whom he adored. Doug is also survived by his dear Aunt Norma Joiner of Washington D.C., his treasured uncle Ray Joiner of Pittsburgh, Penn., and a long time special friend he thought of as family, Noreen Lyne, also of Washington D.C., as well as caring cousins and dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015, at the Tharp Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Stanley officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
