Douglas Franklin Dellinger

Doug Franklin Dellinger, 70, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013. He was the husband of Bonnie Dellinger for 47 years.

Doug was born March 10, 1943, in Portsmouth, VA. Doug was a 1960 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, VA. He was a tenured employee of DuPont in Richmond, VA, and was also an original employee of the German-based company Meredith-Burda, assisting in starting their first U.S. printing factory.

Doug was a loving husband, father, \"pa\", brother, uncle, and friend. He was also an avid fisherman, and loved Smith Mountain Lake. Doug also loved Brookville, E. C. Glass, and Virginia Tech Athletics, and everything Hokie \"" even to the point that his wardrobe consisted of nothing but maroon and orange, from handkerchiefs to baseball caps and everything in between.

Doug loved and produced the best home grown tomatoes. He never met a stranger, and had the ability to make any social situation comfortable.

In addition to his wife, Doug is survived by his children: Shannon Pettyjohn and her husband, Walker, and Jacob Counts and his wife, Elizabeth; grandchild Piper Pettyjohn; siblings Eddie Dellinger and his wife, Mary, Clarence \"Peewee\" Dellinger, and Carolyn Coch; nephew Cameron Dellinger; niece Toni Nolf, and many close family and friends.

There will be a memorial service on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg with Pastor Tom Bryant officiating. A visitation will be held at Tharp following the service.
