Douglas Ray “Uncle Doug” Bevington, 87, of Forest, died Wednesday, November 30, 2016. He was the husband of Patricia Mae Bevington for 50 years.
Born Thursday, January 17, 1929 in, Chardon, OH, Doug was the son of the late Thomas Bevington and the late Goldie Deem Bevington.
In addition to his wife, Doug is survived by his children, Mark Bevington and his wife, Laurie, of Chardon, OH, Jan B. Horesh, and her husband, Bob, of Newbury, OH, Dee Bevington, of Elk River, MN, and Todd Bevington, and his wife, Katherine, of Blue Bell, PA, grandchildren, Kurt Bevington, Ashley Higginbotham, Travis Horesh, and Kyle Horesh.
Doug proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II as well as the U.S. Army of Occupation in the European Theater. During his tenure in the military, he served as an investigator in the intelligence/courts divisions with duties including the encoding and deciphering of messages and cryptograms. He was honorably discharged in 1949 with the rank of Corporal.
He spent over 30 years as an agent and district sales manager with Prudential Insurance Company in both Ohio and Virginia. During this time, he acquired the Chartered Life Underwriter designation, becoming one of the first individuals in the state of Ohio to achieve this title.
Doug’s hobbies included hunting for deer in the beautiful central Virginia countryside and piloting his plane.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM on Sunday, December 04, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
