Douglas "Doug" Divers Shelburne, Jr.

Douglas "Doug" Divers Shelburne, Jr., 81 of Forest, VA passed away on January 15, 2024, at Westminster Canterbury (WC). Born September 17, 1942, in Lynchburg, VA, he was the son of the late Douglas Divers Shelburne and Florence Warner Shelburne.

Doug graduated from Martinsville High School in 1960 and then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Lynchburg College in 1964.  Doug worked in nuclear energy at Framatome for 42 years.

Doug enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed talking to staff and friends at WC Drinkard Healthcare, Third Floor where he will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor and always thinking of others. He especially enjoyed having lunch or dinner with his friend, Mr. Balakas. His family has fond memories of him enjoying painting, cooking, traveling and family beach trips. He especially loved attending various events with his grandchildren and taking pictures. We all learned so much from him and will miss him dearly.

Doug is survived by his daughters, Gala Shelburne (husband, Brian Powell), Dianne Witt (husband, Barry) and Anne Smith (husband, Matt); his grandchildren Sierra Ohrn (husband, Caleb), Dakota Witt (wife, Teijah), Douglas Powell, Evelyn Smith and Elaine Smith; his siblings Anne Shelburne Stone (husband, Ronald) and Cephas Shelburne (wife, Polly); and other loving family members and friends.

The family would like to thank all of his caregivers for their care and compassion. Doug is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, VA. Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024 at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home & Burial Park, Martinsville, VA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Westminster Canterbury Foundation, Employee Education Fund, 501 VES Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503.
