Douglas Wayne Jones, 53, of Forest, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017. He was the husband of Melissa Wingfield Jones.
Doug was born on July 8, 1964 in Lynchburg, Va., to Beverly Haile “Junior” Jones and the late Gladys Worley Jones.
He graduated from EC Glass High School and CVCC with a diploma in Heating, Air, and Refrigeration. He worked in maintenance at Centra Health and Teva Pharmaceutical until his health declined. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He also was on a bowling league, the First Nighter’s and his team was The Outlaws. Doug’s love for life and compassion for others were among his greatest traits.
In addition to his wife and father, Doug is survived by his daughter, Allison Sue Jones of Forest; his sister, Susan Cyrus and her husband, John, of Goode, Va.; and his brother, David Jones of Lynchburg.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held on September 20, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, at 5:00 p.m. with Pastors Jeff Whitt and Sam Jones officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Doug, take a kid fishing or consider making memorial contributions to the James River Association, 4833 Old Main St., Richmond, VA 23231, to help protect America’s Founding River.
