Dr. B. Steven Mcneely
Barney Steven McNeely, 61, of Lynchburg, VA, died Friday, January 07, 2011. He was the husband of Suzanne Metts McNeely for 40 years.
Dr. McNeely was born Wednesday, August 10, 1949 in Oxford, MS, a son of the late Jessie Mooney McNeely and William H. McNeely, Jr.
In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by a son, Adam McNeely and his wife, Lieu, of Sykesville, MD, his daughter, Carol McNeely, of Lynchburg, three brothers, Howard McNeely and his wife, Kuen, of Florida, Gary McNeely of Corinth, MS, and Dennis McNeely and his wife, Bonnie, of Roswell, GA.
A native of Oxford, Mississippi, Dr. McNeely received his undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi and his Master\"™s and Ph.D. Degrees from the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY. Over the thirty-six years in which he has served as a minister, Steve served churches in Kentucky, Mississippi, Maryland, and Virginia, the last nine years as the Pastor of Peakland Baptist Church in Lynchburg. Teaching was always a devoted avocation for Steve. Special areas of interest in Steve\"™s ministry included guiding programs of growth in Christian discipleship, building ecumenical and inter-racial community, and leading congregations in responding to human need in Jesus\"™ name. Steve will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He was frugal with himself but generous with others, a compassionate man with an inspiring faith.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Friday, January 14 at Peakland Baptist Church. A celebration of Steve\"™s life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Peakland Baptist church with the Rev. Nathan Brooks and the Rev. Randal Walton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Peakland Baptist Church, 4018 Peakland Place, Lynchburg, VA 24503, or The Mercy Care Centre Foundation, P.O. Box 186, Forest, VA 24551.
