Dr. Divinia Maliwat Bautista
July 28, 1942 — July 15, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Divinia Bautista affectionately known as Dives announces her passing on July 15, 2020, in Lynchburg Virginia after a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Dives was born on July 28, 1942, in the Philippines to predeceased parents Lazaro and Paz Bautista and was sister to predeceased siblings Larry and Flor Bautista.
Dives graduated from medical school in the Philippines from the University of Santo Tomas in 1965. She moved to the U.S. and completed her residency in 1969 at Orange Memorial hospital. Several years later she finally settled in Lynchburg and began her career as a Pediatrician at the Central Virginia Training Center until her retirement.
It’s hard to forget such a strong impressionable woman like Dives, who lived her life as a devout Catholic with so much enthusiasm and vitality. She walked through life with purpose; it was hard to keep up with her at times.
A world-class traveler having travelled to all seven continents before her death; an avid reader, art lover, Jeopardy junkie, and passionate advocate for the field of medicine; Dives was a true renaissance woman.
Dives touched so many lives by her unique spirit, generosity, and zest for celebrating big milestones with a bang. She loved her family and friends so much and surrounded herself with their pictures and fond memories. She was a big supporter of educational pursuits, personal development and the talents of her nieces and nephew.
Dives will be fondly missed by her brothers Leo (Terry), and Louie (Cecilia); her, nieces Sasha, Sarah (Douglas); nephew, Noel (Anne); one-year-old grandniece, Charlie and all her extended family and solid group of friends from the U.S. and across the globe.
Dives’ light and exuberance will always shine brightly, and words cannot solely express what an indelible mark she has left on this earth and in our hearts. Rest in eternal peace, our dear daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Visitation service will be held Friday, July 17, 2020 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Msgr. J. Kenneth Rush, Jr. officiating.
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the family kindly asks that all visitors attending the visitation/funeral service to please wear a face mask and refrain from physical contact such as hugging, handshaking, and kissing other visitors to ensure the health and safety of all in attendance. We thank you for your understanding during this unprecedented time.
