Dr. John Scudder, Jr.

Dr. John “Jack” Ralph Scudder, Jr., 92, of Lynchburg died Monday, November 19, 2018. He was the husband of the late Mary Clayton Scudder.
Jack was born March 9, 1926 in Taylorsville, NC, a son of the late John Ralph Scudder, Sr. and Fodell Adams Scudder. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Dr. Scudder was retired as a Professor of Philosophy at Lynchburg College and was a member of the First Christian Church.
He is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” S. Freeman of Lynchburg, and Catherine S. Burke of Roanoke, three brothers, Richard Scudder of Carrollton, GA, William Scudder of Morganton, NC, and Allan Scudder of Columbia, TN, one sister Sally Scudder of Seal Beach, CA, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son John R. Scudder, and one brother James Scudder.
A Memorial Service for Jack will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 1st, 2018 at First Christian Church in Lynchburg with the Rev. Cyd Cowgill officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church.
