Dr. Pauline M. Donaldson

Dr. Pauline Marie Donaldson, 72, of Lynchburg, Virginia, went to be with her Saviour after an extensive illness of Progressive Nuclear Palsy, thereby joining her father and mother from Hillsdale, Michigan, and seeing for the first time our first born Jean Marie\"™s demise of 1962. Pauline\"™s demise was a peaceful passing at home on January 31, 2013. Interment is to be on the family farm in the area.

Dr. Pauline (Lowe) Donaldson is survived by a husband, John; two sisters, Ireta and Janice and a brother Dale of Michigan; a daughter, Dawn Ella (Donaldson) Cowart of Evington, and John W. Donaldson II of Raleigh, North Carolina. In addition are five grandchildren \"" Marissa, Caleb, and Isabel by Dawn and Steve; Jessica and Jill by John and Jennifer. In addition, there is the \"adopted family\" of the Hepkers of Locust Corners.

Pauline had a full life with many initiating opportunities: Her M.A. from the University of Michigan in elementary school counseling was among the first; she immersed herself early in GED instruction and developing a program with Grand Rapids Social Services for requiring course work on how to keep a job, which when assuming a Liberty University professorship, applied the principles for assisting at risk students, while also initiating the Honors Program for the neophyte school in 1979 to see students move into acceptance at graduate schools. Pauline was instrumental in creating a scholarship program for honors students and initiating academic honors chapters for students in Education and for incoming Freshman, over which she was Academic Dean. She led the University in accreditation and in development of the Education Master\"™s and Doctorate Degrees while serving on numerous community-civic committees and completing a Doctoral studies program at the University of Virginia.

Pauline\"™s mission interests were nurtured by the enthusiasm of a neighbor who took children to church, a missionary pastor, Paul Versluis, the dedication of a young Martin family in Christian living and doctrine, and Cedarville College\"™s on campus prayer groups. Consequently, when asked by the president of MCMI to assist in training ESL for China, Pauline found both her greatest challenge and pleasure in working with China Mainland Mission as a teacher-trainer for English as a second language, writing teaching modules for the ESL, screening candidates for ESL in China, and then traveling to China to see how efficient her modules were for others to follow.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. today, Saturday, February 2, 1013 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A private family interment will follow.

A memorial service is scheduled for 7:00 pm on February 10, 2013, at Lakewood Baptist Church, Lynchburg, Virginia.

Memorial contributions can be made through Lakewood Baptist Church, 2469 Sunburst Road, Evington, Virginia for the mission work of ABWE.
