Dr. William L. Focht

Dr. William L. Focht of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away at 82 years old on January 11, 2025, after a long illness. He was born in New York and was the only child of the late Georgina and Nevil Focht.

Bill worked at Grumman Aircraft Manufacturing on Long Island, New York during the summer and was awarded a scholarship to Princeton University by Gruman Aviation. He graduated from Princeton and went on to the University of Pennsylvania where he obtained his doctorate in nuclear physics.

Bill worked at Sweet Briar College and then General Electric (Genworth), traveling around the country and the world.

His passions were airplanes, music, cats, and tigers. Bill’s quirks were many- the enchantment of the strange sums him up. What a guy!

He will be sorely missed by his fiancé, Donna, and his friends, Phillis W., Jamie C., Paul F., Lynn W., and Frank G.
