E. Janet Henderson

Ethelind Janet (Snead) Henderson, 84, of Granger, formerly of Lynchburg, VA, passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side, Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN, following an illness. A child of the "Great Depression" she was born on January 31, 1929, in Lynchburg, VA, to the late Henry Maury and Ruth Amelia Vera (Hyden) Snead. She received a BA Degree in 1950 from Lynchburg College and was a member of Euclid Christian Church, Lynchburg, VA. She was married to Alton Clay Henderson in Longview, TX on April 25, 1954. She was an elementary school teacher in Martinsville, VA, and Arlington, TX, before she had her family and did some substitute teaching after. They made their homes in Louisiana, Texas, Kentucky, Indiana, and Athens, Ohio. Janet loved music. She played the piano and organ for several churches in Muncie, IN, and most recently for Athens First Christian Church, Athens, OH, where she was a member. Alton passed away on February 1, 2011. Her children are left to cherish her memory, Keith D. (Linda) Henderson of Billings, MT, Mark (Pam) Henderson of Burnsville, MN, Joy H. (Steve) Smith of Houston, TX, and Eric P. (Cathy) Henderson of Granger. She will also be greatly missed by her loving grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth, Samuel, Joshua, Daniel, Joseph, Caleb, Nathan, Paul, Adam, David, Luke, Sarah Joy, Isaac, Peter, Noah, and Phoebe; and two nieces, Dianne (J.C.) of Chandler, AZ, and Jennifer (Greg) of Plymouth, IN. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Henry M. Snead Jr. formerly of Lynchburg, VA. Private viewing was held in Indiana at McGann Hay Funerals Cremations Gatherings, Granger Chapel. Public visitation will be TODAY, Sunday, November 24, 2013, from 4 until 8 p.m., at the Tharp Funeral Homes & Crematory, Lynchburg Chapel, 220 Breezewood Dr., Lynchburg, where funeral services will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Ft. Hill Memorial Park, Lynchburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Athens First Christian Church, 24 W. State St., Athens, OH 45701.
