Earl Carlton Fisher, Jr.

Earl Carlton Fisher, Jr. 88, of Bedford passed away on August 10, 2017 at Oakwood Manor. He was born on June 23, 1929, the son of the late Earl Carlton Fisher and Rosa Witt Fisher. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Marie Arthur Fisher, his sister Lorene F. Smith, and two sons in-law, Steve Firebaugh and Clifton Creasy. He is survived by his step-children, J. Phillip Mitchell and wife, Sharon, Sue M. Firebaugh, and Charles H. Mitchell and wife, Joyce, all of Bedford and Carol M. Creasy of Goode; grandchildren, Sonja F. Scott (Zak) of Richmond, Laura M. Hoffman (Joel) of Fort Wayne, IN., Ashley Abarca-Mitchell (David) of Franklin, TN., Heather Mitchell of Lynchburg and Matthew C. Mitchell (Samantha) of Bedford; nephew Douglas Smith of Georgia and niece Stephanie S. Mason of Madison Heights; and nine great-grandchildren.

Earl was a faithful servant to his Savior and a devoted member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church. A wise, kind, gentle man who showed by example what a Christian man should be. He was a retired pressman from Piedmont Label Company where he worked for over 49 years. He also was a skilled carpenter and woodworker who enjoyed making numerous dollhouses for his granddaughters and other family members.

A celebration of Earl’s life will be held at Timber Ridge Baptist Church on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 3:00 pm, with Pastors Phillip Kelley and Ray Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation at Timber Ridge Baptist Church, one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Oakwood Manor for caring for him.
