Earnest Duval Leftwich

Earnest Duval \"Buddy\" Leftwich, Jr., 86, of Lynchburg, VA, died Monday, April 8, 2013 at Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital of congestive heart failure. His loving family was at his side.

Buddy was born on February 22, 1927 in Bedford County, VA. He was the son of the late Earnest D. Leftwich, Sr. and the late Lillie Martin Leftwich. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Jean Sutherland Leftwich. He is survived by his son Glenn D. Leftwich of Keene, NH; his daughter Brenda Leftwich Thornton and her husband Barry Thornton of Hardy, VA; two grandchildren Craig and Lera Thornton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Buddy was a graduate of Brookville High School. He was a veteran, serving in the Coast Guard during World War II and the Army during the Korean War. Buddy spent his career in automobile sales, working primarily for Vaughan\"™s Chevrolet and Cadillac. After retirement, Buddy and his late wife traveled extensively, enjoying their retirement together. They enjoyed going to auctions, NASCAR, and casinos. He was a loving father and husband.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday April 11, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.

A Celebration of Buddy's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday April 12, 2013 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Centra staff at Lynchburg General Hospital, Virginia Baptist Hospital, and Guggenheimer Health and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association 4217 Park Place Ct Glen Allen, VA 23060-9979, the American Diabetes Association 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311, the National Kidney Foundation 30 East 33rd St New York, NY 10016, or to a charity of your choice.
