Edgar Thomas Harris of 501 V.E.S. Road died Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on June 21, 1915 in Lynchburg, the son of late Dr. and Mrs. George Thornhill Harris. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Georgia Keeling Harris; brothers and sisters, Mary Gordon Harris, Genevieve H. Hoskins, George T. Harris, Jr., H. Herbert Harris, Janet H. Harding, Malcolm H. Harris and Garnet G. Harris.
He is survived by two sons, E. Thomas \"Tommy\" Harris, Jr. and wife Sherwood and George Robert \"Bobby\" Harris and wife Ann; and one daughter, Janet Harris Sheusi, all of Lynchburg; nine grandchildren, Karen Harris Omohundro and husband Jeff, E. T. \"Tom\" Harris, III, C. Vincent Sheusi, Jr. and wife Lesli, Robert M. Sheusi, Carl T. Sheusi, Keeling Harris Pennington and husband Brad, Katherine Harris Waterworth and husband Chad, Laura Harris Morgan and husband John, and G. R. \"Bobby\" Harris, Jr. and wife Heather. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren and many caring nieces and nephews and his devoted friend, Ann Purdy.
During his years of employment he was owner of the Virginia Mallet Corporation, employee of the Lynchburg Foundry and professor at the Central Virginia Community College.
The family sincerely appreciates the dedicated care, attention and love he received from the special employees at Westminster Canterbury and the tender loving care he was given at Lynchburg General Hospital.
A graveside service will be conducted at noon on Thursday, March 17, 2011 in Spring Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Westminster-Canterbury with Chaplain Jeffrey Liddy officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Commons at Westminster-Canterbury.
