Edith Mae Dewitt Elliott

Edith Mae DeWitt Elliott, 75, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2012. She was born June 17, 1937 at Sedalia, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Charlie S. DeWitt and Elsie Casey DeWitt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward S. DeWitt and Jack E. DeWitt, and a little sister, Catherine.

 

She was a lifelong member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She loved helping others, especially the elderly, and was a member and active volunteer with the Bedford Hospital Auxiliary for more than twenty years.

 

She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Roy L. Elliott, a son Larry G. Elliott and wife Angela of Troutville, a daughter Kathryn E. Mayhew and husband Rodney of Bedford, a brother Earl L. DeWitt and wife Josie of Bedford, four sisters-in-law, Aline T. DeWitt, Mary E. Flax, Kathleen E. Wood, and Helen E. Fitzgerald, four grand children, Hunter L. Elliott and friend Allison Eanes, Holly E. Martin and husband Timothy, and Lily and Sage Mayhew, and a great granddaughter Emma Martin.

A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 with Rev. Bob Sowder and Pastor Mark Wilkerson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford (540) 586-3443.
