Edith Overstreet Shelton, 88, of Forest passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018. She was the loving wife of the late Murrell T. Shelton.
Born September 25, 1929 in Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Richard Overstreet and Susie Gordon Overstreet. Edith is also preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.
Edith was a school teacher and she retired from Bedford County Public Schools. She was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church as well as being very involved with the Bethany United Methodist Woman’s Organization, Bedford Christian Ministries, and Gleaning for the World, as well as the Campbell County Recreation Departments Line Dancing group.
She is survived by her son: Michael Shelton and wife, Kelly; daughter: Linda Smith and husband, Donald; grandchildren: Meredith Quarles and husband, Derrick, Taylor Smith, Reed Shelton, Will Shelton; and two great-grandchildren: Ella and Atticus Quarles.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Bethany United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Kent Wise. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home Bedford, today, Friday, September 21, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family request’s memorial contributions in Edith’s honor to be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, PO.Box12 Forest, VA 24551 or Bedford Christian Ministries, 217 W. Washington St. Bedford, VA 24523.
