Edna May Barrigar Helt
Edna May Barrigar Helt, 76, of Forest, went home to be with her Lord on January 29, 2014 following a long illness.
She was born on October 3, 1937 in Amsterdam, New York to the late Robert and Mary Barrigar. She was the loving wife of David Allen Helt for 56 years. She was raised in Darien, CT, lived in Colden, NY and relocated to Lynchburg, in 1981. She attended Darien High School and Providence Barrington Bible College, Providence, RI. She worked at Liberty University for 25 years. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed all sports, especially the NY Yankees, cooking, baking, reading and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Davinda Lee Yates and her husband, Steven Yates of Goode; David John Helt and his wife, Debra of Forest; grandchildren: Daniel Yates and his wife, Kate of Bedford, Charity Yates, Andrew Yates , Steven Yates, and Kristiana Helt; sisters: Mary Avery of Madison Heights and Betty Torpey of Stamford, CT., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Barrigar and James Barrigar and sister, Dorothy Scofield.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 2, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday after the service.
