Edsel Holland of 432 Lotus Drive, Gretna, Virginia walked into Heaven on Saturday, August 19, 2017 from Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Rocky Ford, Georgia on December 13, 1934, to Willie Aaron Holland and Violet Brigdon Holland. He worked for the Southern Railroad before entering the Army in 1957. He served in the Army Security Agency for 8 years before beginning his career with IBM, from which he retired in 1996. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Homer Holland and a sister, Helen Scheider.
Edsel is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharon Holland, of the residence and his children, Mark Holland and his wife, Sherri, of Clifton Forge, VA; Shelly Bailess and husband, Jeff, of Gretna; and Cheryl Baker and Husband, David, also of Gretna. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Tyler Holland and his wife, Kelsie, Karrie Holland, Katie Bailess, Heather Bailesss, Lindsey Bailess, Alex Baker, and Grayson Baker, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Dawson Inn, Children Miracle Network or Autism Speaks.
The Family will receive friends at the residence. A memorial service will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 2 p.m.
