Edward Elwood Frisa, Jr., of Lynchburg, passed away in the company of his family members on Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, after a brief illness.

Beloved father, husband, brother, son, and master structural engineer, Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 49 years, Jane Frisa. He is survived by his partner, Mary Jo Krufka; sister Beth Frisa and brother-in-law, Randy Rydell; daughter Carolyn Frisa, partner Garet McIntyre, and grandson Rowan McIntrye; and daughter Elinor Frisa, partner Tim Barney, and grandson Felix Frisa.

Ed served his country in the Vietnam War, contributed his time and expertise to the Peakland United Methodist Church and many other charities and non-profit organizations, and led his firm, Nolen Frisa Associates, to years of a sterling reputation in the engineering community. Known widely for his kindness, his generosity, and his practical, no-nonsense wisdom, Ed enjoyed taking almost daily trips to the grocery store; following railroads and building model train sets; meticulously researching car purchases; making rum pound cakes for his many friends and acquaintances; taking his family to the Outer Banks every May, where he loved to fly kites on the beach; and spoiling various dogs and grandchildren.

Service details will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lynchburg Humane Society, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, or Lynchburg Grows.

Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
