Edward Lewis Wood, 60, of Bedford passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. A son of the late Lewis Dewitt Wood and Florine Gross Wood. Ed was born on October 26, 1954 in Bedford, VA.
Ed worked for many years as a mechanic for Ford Motor Company. Later in life he worked for Scott’s Automotive in Bedford as a Machinist. He loved to ride his tractor, tinkering with old cars and with any mechanical issues. He also enjoyed fishing, going on boat rides and spending time with his family and friends.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Barbara W. Wood; two children, Dale W. Ragland and her husband, Corbert and William “Eddie” Wood; four grandchildren, Anna Wood, Hunter Wood, Layla Ragland and Julia Wood; seven siblings, Audrey Howard, Lois Wood, Willard Wood and wife, Doris, Cecil Wood, Ellen Vaughan and her husband, Russell, Naomi Davis and her husband, Dave and Steve Wood and his wife, Shirley; also numerous nieces, nephews and friends, especially, Ashley, Cheryl, Jim, Pokeman and Mike and Heather and their son, Pace.
A Funeral service and celebrations of Ed’s life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev Ray T. Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in Sucks Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford.
