Edward Robert “Ed” Langan Sr.

Edward Robert “Ed” Langan Sr. 85, went home to be with the Lord on February 19, 2022. Upon his arrival into God’s Kingdom, he was welcomed in Heaven by his wife of 51 years EdnaMay, his sons John, Steven, Eddie “Peanut” and grandson “little John”. Edward was also greeted by other friends and family members that had preceded him in going home.
Mr. Langan is survived by his last remaining son Jason, wife Angelique, sons Austin, Sean and family dog (Chewie) and daughter-in-law Debbie. Edward was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. and graduated Class of 1954 from Manual-Training-High-School.1956 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and honorably served our nation until his discharge in 1960.
From 1960 to 1961, Ed worked for Bristol Myers Squibb as a tablet/capsule dispensing machine operator. On November 2, 1961“Ed” accepted an appointment to the City of New York Police Department (N.Y.P.D.) as a Patrolman/Police Officer. Ed had aspirations to rise through the ranks of the department and continued his education. While working and as a family man, Ed had earned an A.A.S in Police Sciences and furthered his course work from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
He had served his entire career in the Patrol Borough Brooklyn South (PBBS), his precinct commands were the 88th, 66th, 68th, 60th, and 72nd. His squad assignments included, Patrol services, Anti-Crime, Community Affairs, Neighbor Stabilization Unit and Field Training Officer Supervision. In February 1987, Ed was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and retired from the N.Y.P.D. two years later.
In 1988, Ed uprooted his family and resettled in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was a baseball enthusiast and a lifelong Brooklyn Dodgers and N.Y. Mets fan. He was an avid bowler and loved to play cards with friends and family. Ed also enjoyed boating and tending to his pool every summer. He enjoyed going to casinos in Atlantic City, West Virginia and Las Vegas along with EdnaMay and friends.
Ed had completely immersed himself and lived for his entire family, especially his grandchildren. Ed and EdnaMay’s favorite love song was “Through the Years” by Kenny Rogers. As a family, they have had a copious amount triumphs, trials and tribulations. They are together once again in the presence of our God, Lord and Savior. They are now waiting on the “baby” of the family to take his place in the Kingdom of God… many years and decades down the road.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg chapel. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2022, at Alta Vista Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to local dementia associations and or local law enforcement agencies widow and children’s scholarship funds.
