Edward W. Holdren, Jr.

Edward Woodrow Holdren, Jr., 61, of Thaxton, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2012. Born in January 12, 1951 in Roanoke, VA. A son of Nina Jones Holdren and the late Edward Woodrow Holdren, Sr. In addition to his father, Ed was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Keith Morgan and John Harvey Morgan, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, John D. Wilkes.

Ed was a very outgoing witty person who never met a stranger. He had a love and passion for music, working on cars and he was an avid Dallas Cowboys Fan. He loved spending time with his family. He was the primary caregiver for his loving mother. Ed was employed with Coca-Cola for 21 years.

In addition to his mother, Ed is survived by four sisters, Donna Sue Holdren Wilkes of Appomattox, Shirley Holdren Dooley and husband, Philip of Thaxton, Gloria Holdren Patton and husband, Craig of Salem and Bonnie Ann Morgan of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many special friends.

Ed had a very courageous battle with alcoholism through many years in his life. The family asks that in lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to Liberty Cowboy Church, 737 Blue Ridge Avenue, Bedford, VA 24523. – Serenity Prayer- God Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Virginia Memorial Park with Danny Holdren Officiating. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, (540)-586-3443.
