Edward Wayne Samples, Jr. died on Sunday, July 8, 2018 peacefully at home after a lengthy illness; he was the devoted husband for over 49 years of Elaine Wright Samples who recently predeceased him.
Edward was born January 15, 1940 in Charleston, West Virginia, son of Edward W. Samples, Sr. and Katherine Bowen Samples. Edward was a graduate of West Virginia University and the School of Pharmacy at West Virginia University. He was a pharmacist in Lynchburg for Patterson Drug, Revco, and the Kroger Company particularly at their Wards Road location.
He and Elaine enjoyed traveling the East Coast from Maine to Key West, and visits to Colonial Williamsburg; often joined by Ken and Suzanne Wright. Like his wife he was an avid animal lover. He especially enjoyed spoiling his “girls” Emily and Valentine, King Charles Cavalier Spaniels.
He is survived by his sister Grace Ellen Humphrey, niece Katherine Humphrey, nephews, Dave Humphrey and Tim Humphrey, brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Suzanne Wright.
A visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Virginia Memorial Park with Pastor Margie Anderson officiating.
The family appreciates the compassionate care provided by the Centra Hospice, especially Nurse Rebecca and CNA Sheila. The family thanks the caregivers and staff of Generation Solutions for their years of service especially Joseph, Violet, Robin, Latasha, Linda, Christy, Tammy, Brandy and his Geriatric Care Manager Nancy. Their outstanding care enabled him to remain at home as he wished.
