Elaine Davis Megginson Anderson, died at her residence, 1472 Holiday Lane, Lynchburg, on Sunday, October 18, 2009.
Born in Lynchburg on July 28, 1921, Mrs. Anderson was the daughter of the late Owen Walker Davis and Lucille Baratee Davis. Although she was born and raised in Lynchburg, as a mother and wife in a Navy family, she spent many years away from her “home” living for a time in San Diego, Newport News, and Newport and Providence, Rhode Island. Elaine enjoyed spending time with her family as well as indulging in many hobbies. Crocheting, knitting, making hook rugs and reading were some of her favorite pastimes; and she was also something of a family archivist, maintaining numerous photo albums and personal records about her family. Elaine had a love of the outdoors, and could often be found outside gardening, collecting flowers, or simply bird watching.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by her son, Otis I. Megginson, Jr. (Charlene) of Lynchburg, and granddaughters, Felicia D. Megginson of Brooklyn, NY, and Melanie B. Megginson of Washington, DC. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Pendleton (Gerhart) of Newark, NJ, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Owen and Randolph Davis.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 30, 2009 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Msgr. J. Kenneth Rush officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will follow the reception in Baptist Cemetery on Wiggington Road.
