Elbert Cornelius DeKorte, 97, of Lynchburg died Friday, March 9, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Married for 74 years, he was the loving husband of Audrey Louise Gibb DeKorte.
Born in Garfield, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Cornelius DeKorte and Catherine Schiepan DeKorte. Elbert proudly served his country in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII in the U.S. Army Corps & Artillery division. He was a life member of the VFW Post #2157 in Bedford.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son: Gary DeKorte and wife, Becky; daughters: Alice Hann, Deanna Tsapatakis and husband, Andreas; 7 grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford conducted by Pastor Wayne O. Wingfield. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #16.
