Guthrie and his wife, Becky; his brother in-law, C. Alvin Watts and his wife, Deborah, his sister in-law, Helen Gregory, and his nephews: Christopher Watts, Jason D. Elbert worked as a superintendent for the State of Virginia Prison Camps for twelve years, and was the youngest superintendent that was ever appointed at the time. However, his passion was driving trucks to different parts of the U.S., so he became a professional truck driver and he loved to travel the roads. He had thirty-five years of safe driving with over 4.5 million miles. For twenty of those years, he worked with Burlington Transportation. He moved up to safety supervisor/driver trainer, and won awards at Championship Competitions on state and national levels every year for twenty-nine years.
In his spare time, he loved to have fellowship with friends and family. He was a member of Clinton Lodge 73 in Amherst, the Masonic Lodge, and Woodmen of the World. He loved to garden, and was very proud of his big tomatoes. Elbert loved keeping up the family farm and also enjoyed squirrel hunting. Elbert was a former member of First Assembly Church and a present member of Living Water Ministries on Timberlake Road.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Pastor Mack Almond, and a big special thanks to a good friend, Ande Mason for her acts of kindness and prayers. Elbert always said he had good neighbors, friends, and family who always lifted him. The family would also like to thank the staff at Runk and Pratt, and a special thanks to Jessi McCullock, Courtney Callands, and Hendrix Obi for their love and care, Elbert thought a lot of these three people!
