Eleanore Jean MacDonald

Eleanore Jean MacDonald (nee Tangrady) Forest, VA, passed away December 1, 2024 at Forest Health and Rehab.

Ellie grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts and was a graduate of Commerce High School. She worked outside the home, but her most rewarding jobs were that of wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very talented and creative cook and enjoyed sewing, knitting and needlework. She also enjoyed watching golf and college football. She loved animals, and, in particular, her English Springer Spaniels.

She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mildred (Mortell) Tangrady, first husband, William A. Toomey, and second husband, Norman E. MacDonald, Jr. She is survived by her sisters, Patricia Gray (Holyoke, MA) and Holly (Ed) Benton (Wilmington, NC). She is also survived by her children, Ellen Toomey (Stratford, NJ), Bill Toomey (Enfield, CT), Jim Toomey (Stafford Springs, CT) and her step-children Tom (Joëlle Bochner) MacDonald (Springfield, NJ) and Kathie (Pete) Hamilton (Greenwood Village, CO). She also leaves her grandchildren Caitlin (Dallas) Conrad, Mary Rose (Dylan Gleason) MacDonald, Liam Hamilton, Grace Hamilton and Aidan Hamilton and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and funeral services will be held December 10 at 10:00 am at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Dr., Lynchburg. Interment will follow at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
